1-nil to the Arsenal

PSG V Arsenal, Parc des Princes 1994

As a devoted Arsenal supporter, the ‘1 nil to the arsenal’ chant has played a big part of my life but where did this chant begin? Actually I’ll leave that debate alone as there are many different opinions and it’s very difficult to prove for certain.

PSG 1994 – 95 season

I was at the semi-final 1st leg of the 1994 Cup Winners Cup, PSG V Arsenal at the Parc des Princes. At half time the Pet Shop Boys single – Go West starting booming out the stadium speaker system. We were 1-nil up and I could hear a few fans singing along to the song with the new-found 1-nil lyrics. I went to most games both home and away back then and this was the first time I had heard this chant. It grew quickly in the Paris stadium and all the Arsenal away fans seemed to join in.

The game itself finished a 1 all draw. Ian Wright’s first half goal was cancelled out by Davis Ginola’s early second half equalizer.

Here are some memorable 1-nil to the Arsenal games in an article written by Digital Sports Journalist and Arsenal fan Oliver Yew.
